Charles Clyde Bradburn was called to his heavenly home on January 8, 2022. He was born in Brevard, NC on October 29, 1943. He grew up in Brevard, graduating from Brevard High School in 1961. He played football for Brevard High School, including the State Championship team his senior year. He received a full football scholarship to North Carolina State University, and played center there for four years, following his red-shirt freshman year. While attending NC State, he began dating life-long friend, Kay Foster. Charles and Kay were engaged during their final year of college and were married July 16, 1966.
Upon graduating from NC State with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Charles was hired to work for Missile Intelligence Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. He and Kay married, honeymooned in Myrtle Beach, SC, and moved to Huntsville to begin married life.
Two years later, in September of 1968 Charles and Kay welcomed a daughter, Kelly. In November of 1973, Charles and Kay completed their family with the birth of a son, Charles Jr. “Chuck”.
Charles loved children, and was an excellent father, coach, and teacher. He was devoted to his family, coaching little league baseball and softball, and encouraging both his children to participate in and enjoy all sorts of sports. Charles’ love of family and children extended to the next generation with the birth of five grandchildren. He and Kay were very involved and beloved grandparents, and thoroughly enjoyed this role in life.
Charles was an avid sportsman all his life, enjoying hunting, fishing, playing golf and bowling. After retirement he remained active, enjoying sports and activities with many friends and family members.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Hedwig Bradburn, sister, Patricia Goodson, and his wife, Kay. He is survived by children, Kelly Jenks (Shane) and Chuck (Suzanne); grandchildren, Adam and Hannah Jenks, and Roy, Bernadette and Cecilia Bradburn; and brothers, Hugh Jr. (Angela) and Howard (Veda).
A service of resurrection victory will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 22 at Grace Lutheran Church, followed by a visitation and reception.
