Donald Wayne Simms, 82, of Limestone County passed away Thursday surrounded by his family.
Donald grew up in Kentucky and joined the Navy at age 17. He was stationed in many places including on the USS Independence. He retired after 20 years of service and began a second career with the Army Corp of Engineers. In 2004, he retired to Limestone County where he enjoyed boating, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Simms; daughter, Belinda Arnold and husband, Rob; son Douglas Simms and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Robin Arnold, Matthew Arnold (Bow), Sarah Arnold, Riley Arnold, Victoria Simms Lyon (Aaron) and Patrick Simms; and one great granddaughter, Madelyn Arnold. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernell Johnson Simms.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Maple Hill Cemetery.
