THE SHOALS-With the goal of getting more kids on bikes, and developing strong minds, bodies, and characters, the Northwest Alabama Youth Mountain Bike Team is entering it’s 5th season with the Alabama Interscholastic Cycling Association. They are recruiting 6th-12th grade athletes for this upcoming season, and the next interest meeting will be at the Spinning Spoke Cycle Hub (221 N Seminary Street in downtown Florence) next Thursday the 13th at 6:00pm. They will practice the following Sunday at 2:00pm at the Joe Wheeler State Park boat ramp parking lot, and there will be bikes and helmets available for those who don’t have one, thanks to the ShoalsMTB-MSNHA Bike Fleet. The Shoals Mountain Bike Chapter and the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area have been strong supporters of the program and have curated a bike fleet that will enable new opportunities for the great sport of cycling to flourish in the Shoals. Checkout www.alabamamtb.org and www.shoalsmtb.org for more info on the race series that the athletes are able to compete in, and to learn more about what is going on locally.
