Robert Michael (Mike) Jackson, 78, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013.
Visitation will be noon-1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4. His funeral service will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Brother Mike Pope is officiating.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Curtis Jackson, of Auburn, Ala., and his brothers, Fred and Jack Jackson.
He is survived by his wife, of 541/2 years, Betty Lynn Jackson; daughters, Deborah Jackson Mitchell (Don), Sandra Jackson Marks and Angela Jackson Vanderford (Tim); granddaughters, Lauren N. D’Attilio and Olivia Sinclair Marks; grandson, Michael T. Marks; brothers, David and William Jackson; sister, Margaret Jackson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tommy and Suzanne Pickens.
Mr. Jackson owned and operated his own highway landscaping business for over 20 years, and then became employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad as a conductor. He retired from the railroad after 31 years of service and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Union. He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity in Auburn. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C., as a paratrooper of which he completed 26 jumps, an accomplishment he was very proud of. Mr. Jackson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tuscumbia.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Jackson, Tony Pace, Tim Vanderford, Jay Johnson, Michael Marks and Don Mitchell.
Colbert Memorial Chapel, Tuscumbia, is directing.
