Henry Gerald Carter passed peacefully on December 12, 2021, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by family and friends. Gerald was born in Whiteville North Carolina on March 12, 1933, to Lida Ethel and James Patrick Carter.
Gerald served in the army beginning in 1954 and retired in 1974. He served his country as an executive chef feeding thousands of soldiers during his tour of duty in the Korean war and two tours of the Vietnam war. After he retired, he continued to serve people whether it was helping his church family in the kitchen or working on their cars as a talented mechanic. He enjoyed carpentry alongside his wife Jessie. He also had a love for music and participated in the Angel band playing guitar and singing. He enjoyed going to the local nursing homes and performing gospel music alongside his fellow band members.
Gerald was a devoted father to his three children, Dr. Rodney Carter (Linda), Cynthia Manus (Jeffrey) and Alicia Lominick (Milburn). He was Grandfather to Brandon Boedeker (Tiffany), Eric Boedeker (Mercedes), Jessica Dampier (Travis), Kelsey Carpenter, (Brennen), Hannah Ashburn, Michael Reifsnider (Mishelle), and Brandy Vinson (Shawn). He was blessed to be a great-grandfather to 14 great-grandchildren. He was uncle to many nieces and nephews on the Carter side of the family in North and South Carolina, and on the Lamb side of the family as well.
Henry Gerald Carter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jessie Lamb Carter, brothers, Milton, Eugene, James, Patrick, Morris and his sisters, Louise, Mildred, Shirley, Elaine and Miriam.
Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15 at Sherwood Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at the church with Pastor Robby Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Faith Memorial Park.
