Mary George Austin Chitty, age 73, of Decatur died Thursday, December 2, 2021, at her residence. Her family will host a memorial service at a later date. Shelton Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Mrs. Chitty was born March 18, 1948, in Birmingham, to George Mason Austin and Mary Ruth Carey Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and an accomplished equestrian.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Royce Chitty of Decatur; three sons, Grey Peterson (Brenda) of Birmingham, Patrick Peterson (Lori) of Maplesville, and Royce Chitty, Jr. (Patricia) of DeLand, FL; one daughter, Suzanne Schoerner (Bruce) of Fayetteville, NC; and five grandchildren.
