Mary Lou Tubb Keyes, 90, of Huntsville, passed away November 18, 2021, in her much loved home of 68 years on Monte Sano Mountain which she and Pat had designed. Mary Lou graduated from East Nashville High School in 1949. She married Patrick F. Keyes and moved to Huntsville in 1951. They were happily married for 70 years. She raised three daughters while Pat worked for NASA. In 1961, she was a founding member of the original Huntsville Ballet company, led by Imogene Wheeler, where she made costumes for numerous ballets. Her daughters, more often than not, were clothed in her creations.
Her other interests were traveling, vacationing in Gulf Shores, reading, gardening, and genealogy. She had a special passion for wildflowers. While living on Monte Sano Mountain, she built quite a collection, helped along by her daughters who would bring them back to her from their hikes.
Survivors include her husband, Pat; daughters, Lucy Coleman (husband, Rick), of Huntsville, Katy Prince (husband, Chuck) of Nashville, and Sara Keyes of Huntsville; four grandchildren, Celia Green McKechnie (husband, Braden), Greg, Art, and Oliver Prince; and one great-grandchild, Lilith Vera McKechnie.
There will be no memorial service; but memorials to one of her favorite charities, The Food Bank of North Alabama, would be appreciated.
