Ms. Kyu Byong Gibson passed away peacefully in the late hours of Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the age of 75 years. She was surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.
Ms. Gibson was born on March 7, 1946 to Yi Sung Chun and Yi Yu Duk of South Korea. She married and moved to the United States in 1965 and lived in the Union Grove/Union Hill area for the past 41 years. Kyu believed in hard work and putting one’s best efforts forward. She retired from SCI in Lacey’s Spring after 15 years of service.
Kyu was an adventurous foodie, enjoyed cooking for her family, and gardening for hours. Valued by Koreans, she loved to harvest and make traditional dishes from her chestnut trees. Most important to her was family; she had 5 children; Sandra Townsend DiSabatino (deceased), Robert Gibson, Jr. (Linda), Roger Gibson (Jerri), Mary Barnett (Paul), and John Gibson (Melinda). She also loved her 12 grandchildren (1 deceased) and 11great grandchildren.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
