Mary Frances Cupps (Upton) May, 82, of Dora, AL, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 2, 1939, in Empire, AL, the oldest daughter of D.D. and Beulah Cupps’s twelve children. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Robert Cupps, Cecil Cupps, Johnny Cupps, Charles “Bodie” Cupps, and Gary Cupps; sisters Shelby Gunter and Martha Reed; husband Roland May, and father of her children, Lacy D. Upton.
Mary was a licensed practical nurse for twenty years at Shadescrest Nursing and Rehab Facility in Jasper where she trained and mentored several nurses and certified nursing assistants who would later care for Mrs. May in her last days. The joys of her life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children, Russell (Renea) Upton, Sharon (Johnny) Black, and Susan (Jay) Robinson; grandchildren Summer Upton, Sunny (Jason) Dyke, Tyler (Cynthia) Upton, Jon (Ashley) Black, Josiah (Rachel) Robinson, Isaac (Kaitlyn) Robinson, Asa Robinson, and Zane Robinson; great grandchildren Jad Dyke, James Upton, Parx Dyke, Millie Upton, and Naomi Robinson; beloved brother Stanley Cupps; sisters-in-law Anita Cupps and Melissa Cupps Landrum; and a special host of nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends who will dearly miss her.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Bell’s Funeral Home in Sumiton, AL, on Tuesday, October 12, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Shanghi Memorial Cemetery in Quinton. Mrs. May’s grandsons have the special honor of serving as her pallbearers.
