Nelson Hayes Short

Age 83 of Cottontown went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at his home. He was born March 2, 1938 in Nashville, TN to Luther V. & Eva Mae Jackson Short. He was retired as an accountant from 31-W Insulation and was a long time member of Birdwell’s Chapel Church of Christ. Hayes enjoyed collecting “old treasures”, painting, gardening, hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors and woodworking. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon Short. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Delois Short, Cottontown, TN; sons, Randy (Brian Shreeve) Short, Goodlettsville, TN, Andy (Donna) Short, Cottontown, TN and Billy (Elisa) Short, Clarksville, TN; daughter, Tammy (Kenny) Allen, Cottontown, TN; 6 grandchildren, Dena (Micah) Lashley, Ashley (Nolen) Lanius, Trey (Heather) Allen, Cody (Tabby) Allen, Keely (Derek) Apple and Nicole (Justin) Shumake; 13 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kennedy Joyce, Jack Lashley, Ryder Lanius, Lee and Logan Allen, Marlee Kate and Myla James Allen, Elsi Apple, Brady and Zach Barckley, Lucas Shumake and Gavin Hutchinson; 1 great-great grandchild, Hensely Barckley. Funeral service is scheduled for Monday, October 11, 2021 at 2pm at Birdwell’s Chapel Church of Christ with Bro. Scott Ballard and Bro. Dale Sadler officiating. Interment will follow in White House Memorial Gardens with Trey Allen, Cody Allen, Micah Lashley, Nolen Lanius, Brian Shreeve, Derek Apple, Jacob Joyce and J.B. Bell serving as pallbearers. Visitation is planned for Sunday, October 10, 2021 4-8PM at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House and Monday, October 11, 2021 12noon until the hour of the service at Birdwell’s Chapel Church of Christ.
