Leland Meade Gardiner Jr., 88, passed away on August 10, 2021.
Leland was a native of Huntsville, growing up in the Hobbs Island area, where his family owned a farm. He loved boating, skiing, hiking, and gardening. Leland was a graduate of Huntsville High School and Samford University. As a pharmacist, he began his professional career in Huntsville, opening Gardiner Drug Store on Whitesburg Drive in 1955-1976. He later worked for several drug companies, retiring in 2011. Leland was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was active in church activities, including the Faith Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Arnold Gardiner; his sons, Skip Gardiner and wife, Carolyn and Mark Alan Gardiner and wife, Krista; and his sister, Nancy Gardiner Hurt. He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Meade Gardiner Sr.; his mother, Marjorie Inez Gardiner; sister, Elizabeth Gardiner Manning; and a daughter, Ann Gayle Gardiner.
The family will have a private service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The First United Methodist Church or to The Huntsville Humane Society.
