Food Trucks, Live Music, COVID-19 vaccine clinic, and Kid’s Korner scheduled for downtown Athens this Friday

ATHENS – Mark your calendars for lots of fun in downtown Athens this Friday (August 6, 2021) for the summer’s last Fridays after Five event.
Several merchants and restaurants will be open late until 8 p.m. for patrons to enjoy. Patrons can sip on their favorite beverage in The Square Arts & Entertainment district and enjoy the selection of food trucks.
Food trucks scheduled to be in attendance are Beer Belly BBQ, Get Loaded, Mama’s Kitchen CupBap, Rocket City Popperz, Happi Pappi, and Rita’s Italian Ice.
“We are excited to have another successful summer event in the heart and spirit of Limestone County,” Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson said. “I encourage everyone to come out to historic downtown Athens for a night of fun with your family and friends.”
Singing on the Square
This month’s Singing on the Square performers will be Jerome and Tiffany Malone. This annual singing series is hosted by the Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association.
According to the Malones, the upcoming performance on the Marion Street side of the courthouse will be ‘An Evening of Praise & Worship’ with The Malones, Oasis Worship & Praise, Will Stutts from Lindsay Lane, By Faith, and Javan Bailey.
This free concert series is open to the public and is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chair.
COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic
Athens-Limestone Hospital will have a COVID-19 vaccine clinic and will accept walk-ins for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on a first come, first serve basis for ages 12 or older during the Fridays after Five and Singing on the Square events.
According to a release from the hospital, the clinic will be opened from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Center for Lifelong Learning located at 121 South Marion Street in downtown Athens.
Kid’s Korner
On top of all the other activities, Athens State University is sponsoring a Kid’s Korner as part of their Bicentennial Celebration, which is scheduled to be kicked off at their Homecoming Dinner on July 30.
The Kid’s Korner will include cornhole games, putt-putt, horseshoes, and a craft station on the Market Street side of the courthouse lawn. ASU’s mascot ‘Hebrew the Bear’ will be present for photo opportunities and the university is planning giveaways throughout the night. Kids 12 and under can receive coupons for a free treat at Rita’s Italian Ice Truck.
