John J. Harrity, Jr. passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021. John was born in New York City in 1931 and lived in New Jersey until 1973 when his office was relocated to the Missile Command in Huntsville. He was married to the former Patricia Selzer for almost 68 years. They had three daughters, Kathy Carroll of Huntsville, Diane Brinkley (husband, David) of Suwanee, GA, and Kelly Harrity (deceased) of Huntsville; along with five grandchildren, Jason, Jeffrey, and Jeremy Caroll (wife, Lyndsi), Carla Finch (husband Mitchell), and Daniel Brinkley (wife, Shannon). Two children, five grandchildren, and great-grandson, Frasier Harrity Carroll, along with John’s wife, Pat, have survived him.
In 1987 John retired after some 33 years of engineering assignments – most in project management. His responsibilities included the production of munitions and missiles used to support U.S. Forces. As a result of his actions, he was awarded the Dept. of the Army Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service.
Following his Missile Command retirement, he was an independent consultant as he transitioned to full retirement. He was also a member and an usher at Holy Spirit Catholic Church since 1973.
