Ronald Lee Allen, 82, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021, in Huntsville. Ron was born in Gallatin, Tennessee on August 8, 1938, to Carl William Allen and Pauline Evelyn Weatherford Allen. He graduated from Gallatin High School, and at the age of 17, joined the United States Navy. After serving for eight years as an electronics technician on the Hawaiian Islands and Midway Island, he then served with the United States Coast Guard on the Great Lakes. He later spent summers working his way through school (Tennessee Tech University), where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
He moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1964 where he began his professional career in electrical engineering. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years, where he loved his career in design and working with many friends. He enjoyed photography, maintaining and working on cars, and swimming daily at the Huntsville Aquatics Center. He was also a member of Hillwood Baptist Church where he loved children, watched over toddlers during Sunday School, and cooked in the kitchen during special events and brotherhood breakfasts.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harry William Allen; his brother and sister-in-law, William Dale Allen and Danie Allen; and his stepfather, O’Dell Gregory. Ron is survived by his wife, Janice Link Allen, and daughter, Grace Alayne Allen. In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Reba Armstrong (Joe); three nieces: Dale McMichael, Sara Blakely (Cletus), and Rebekah Brockman (Scott); three nephews: Jeffrey Allen, David Allen (Maura), and Harry Allen, Jr. (Christie); five great nieces and nephews; and two great-great nephews.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, at Hillwood Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held immediately after at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Charles Freeman officiating. Graveside service to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
