Carnie R. BlockCarnie Reid Block, 83, of Huntsville, passed away on July 13, 2021. Carnie was born April 2, 1938 in Alice, Texas to the late Carnie and Elnora Block. Carnie grew up in Falfurrias, Texas, and graduated high school in 1956. He received a scholarship to study petroleum engineering and play football at Tulsa University. During his second year at TU, an “absolutely gorgeous” TU cheerleader, Robyn Bennett, caught Carnie’s eye. In May of 1960 Carnie and Robyn were married.

After graduating TU in 1961, Carnie accepted a job as a petroleum engineer with Standard Oil Company of Texas and the family moved to Corpus Christi, TX. Carnie’s career with Standard Oil and later Chevron, took him to Covington, LA, and later to Sumatra, Indonesia and California. Following Carnie’s retirement in 1999, they relocated to Huntsville, AL.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Robyn G. Block; sons, Carnie Reid “Chip”, II, (Tracy), Bryan (Jeff Keller), Kelly (Jill) and Robby (Christian Zimmermann); grandchildren Josh, Ellen Phillips (Charles), Carnie Reid III “Trip”, Justin, Sam, Evan and Abby; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Maddi; brother, David Block; and brother-in-law, David Bennett.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021, at Whitesburg Baptist South Campus Chapel in Huntsville with the service following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
