Dellie Ola Flatt, 93, of Huntsville, passed away June 27, 2021. Ola, as she was known by family and friends, was an accomplished seamstress. Her attention to detail along with her technical skills made her work sought after by many and she sewed everything from wedding gowns to upholstery. In the late 1950s she designed and created an apron for the National Mushroom Council. As a result, she sewed hundreds of aprons and they were featured on the Today Show.
Ola had a passion for working with her hands and loved trying new creative avenues. She excelled at working with stained glass, building many intricate lamps that are cherished by those lucky enough to be gifted one. Her most outstanding glass work was a kinetic, three-dimensional carousel with historically accurate horses. She also collaborated on a large stained-glass window that is currently installed in the Huntsville Madison County Senior Center.
Ola was also prolific at cross stitch. The most difficult subjects and patterns were her favorites, with many including many thousands of stitches.
Ola was known for her strong faith, her untiring work ethic, and her beautiful smile. She enjoyed music, laughter, Christmas lights, and cooking for her family.
Survivors include her son, Richard Flatt; two daughters; Wanda Jones and Terry Hale; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
