Celebrate Freedom with Free Events atop Lookout Mountain

FORT PAYNE-Several events offering a variety of free family fun are on tap atop Lookout Mountain in celebration of the upcoming Independence Day holiday. The star-studded celebrations begin Saturday, June 26th and include a parade, live music, a festival centered on potatoes and spectacular fireworks displays.

Free family fun is on the agenda at the Rainsville Freedom Fest set for June 26, 2021. The fun begins  at 1 p.m. and wraps up at 9 p.m. with a spectacular fireworks show. Activities include a car, truck and motorcycle show, art and craft vendors, a variety of food vendors and live music. Kid’s activities get underway at 2 p.m. and include face painting, pony rides, inflatables, photo booth, rock climbing wall and a mechanical bull. Headliner John Stone takes the stage at 7 p.m.

 

A native of DeKalb County, John Stone has been a fixture on Nashville’s Broadway music scene as the band leader at the World Famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge for many years. He has also shared the stage with a slew of top name performers including Hank Williams Jr., Kid Rock, Brad Paisley, Aerosmith, Alan Jackson, Trace Adkins, Kenny Chesney, Jake Owen, Gavin Degraw, Miranda Lambert, Alabama, Jason Aldean, Lee Brice, Randy Houser and many more.

 

Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit and enjoy the entertainment. Festivities are at the Field of Dreams located at 100 Rodeo Lane in Rainsville and admission is free. Only service animals accompanying disabled individuals are allowed. The Fort Payne Independence Day Celebration is set for July 1, 2021, and the City of Fort Payne invites everyone to an evening of live music and a spectacular fireworks display. The event takes place at the Fort Payne Sports Complex located at 101 45th Street NE in Fort Payne and begins at 7:30 p.m. Slated to perform is Boys in the Band: Alabama Tribute followed by a fireworks show. With its roots in potato farming, the town of Henagar pays tribute to its heritage with a free festival on Saturday, July 3rd. The Sand Mountain Potato Festival offers a car show, arts and crafts fair, parade, a cornhole tournament, live music and children’s games, inflatables and pony rides along with food vendors offering a variety of potato entrees and side dishes.

The Sand Mountain Potato Festival begins with a parade at 10 a.m., with entertainment in the park getting underway at 11 a.m. Slated to perform throughout the day include Steve Kerley & Band, Elisha Tatum and Derek Whisenant, the Hindmans, Jordan’s Crossing, Dusty Smith, State Route 71 and the Carl Childers Band. A cornhole tournament hosted by the Henagar Public Library begins at 3 p.m. on the baseball field and the day-long event concludes with a spectacular fireworks display. All activities are held in Henagar Park located on Alabama Highway 75. While admission is free, a fee is charged to participate in some of the games and activities and parking is $3 per vehicle.
