Funeral services for Jean Lee Raines, age 71, will be held on Wednesday June 9, 2021 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home with Dennis Trull officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt, TN. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday June 9, 2021 starting at 12 noon until service time at 2 PM.
Jean Lee Raines passed away on June 7, 2021.
Jean was born to Herschel Lee and Lucy Jean Henderson Raines on August 4, 1949.
Jean was active in music all her life. She played clarinet in band and piano and organ in church.
Jean studied at the University of Memphis where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with teaching certification in music and mathematics. She also completed a Master of Music Education degree from Memphis. She went to Michigan State University where she earned a PhD in clarinet performance, theory and literature.
In 1980, Jean joined the faculty of Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina where she served as Music Department Chair and Dean, School of Fine Arts. She received the Starnes award for faculty excellence in 2007.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Herschel Lee and Lucy Jean (Henderson) Raines.
Jean leaves three younger brothers, James (Betty), Andy (Peggy), and John Raines, several nieces and nephews as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
Jean was well loved by many friends and co-workers in addition to her family. Her legacy of love and encouragement will be a fond memory for many.
