Funeral services for Mr. Larry Moncus, age 78 of Mellow Valley, will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church (South) with Rev. Alan Hurst and Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Moncus passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Russell Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Clay County, he graduated from Mellow Valley High school in 1961. Larry was a truck driver for 30 years with McClendon Trucking in Lafayette, then owned and worked for 26 years at Clay Recycling until his retirement. He loved to play dominos and watching Alabama football. Whether it was a main or back road, Larry loved to just get out and drive around. He enjoyed going to flea markets, gardening and doing yardwork around the house. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlene Moncus, two sons: Ricky Moncus (Gail) and Greg Moncus, all of Mellow Valley, his daughter, Michelle Thrift (Robert) of Section, two sisters: Judy Knight (Manley) of Mellow Valley and Phyllis Hall of Lawrenceville, GA, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren with two on the way, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert C. Moncus and Katherine Elizabeth Caldwell Moncus, and two brothers: Kenneth “Butch” Moncus and Danny Moncus.
Pallbearers will be: Tim McCain, Larry Jordan, Frazier McNatt, Chad Elder, Austin Knight and Scott Mask.
Reed and Ensly Elders, Marli Price, Cole Moncus, Atleigh McNatt and Raylyn Oliver will serve as an honorary pallbearer
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 12:30 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville is in charge of the arrangements.
