Iris Marie AycockIris Marie Aycock
April 24, 1935 – April 18, 2021

Days before her 86th birthday, Iris passed away peacefully at home with closest family in Huntsville, Alabama. Her passing is a great loss. She was an Artist of the first order with many talents, achievements, and awards. Her love and enjoyment of nature was beautifully expressed in her quilted botanical art pieces. Almost every single day, she worked in her sewing and art studio right up until her passing. Iris had a gift for inspiring others, especially her three children, to explore and celebrate wonders found in the natural world through their own creative processes.

Iris was juried into the Southern Highland Craft Guild in 1995. She was also a skilled gardener, gourmet cook, and avid reader of British mysteries. In addition to several fine craft and quilting magazines, Iris’s artworks and unique processes were documented in these books, Quilt National 2003: The Best of Contemporary Quilts by Dawn Cusick, Art Quilts: A Celebration, 400 Stunning Contemporary Designs by Lark Books, and Imagery On Fabric: A Complete Surface Design Handbook by Jean Ray Laury.

Survivors include son, William Joseph Wilson Jr. of Anniston; daughters, Emily Claire Wilson and Patricia Louise Ducote, both of Huntsville; and grandchildren, Rosemary Cucksee and Alex Wilson. A family celebration of life will be at a later date.

Godspeed our dear Mother, we love you.
