James Madison Glass III

James Madison Glass III, age 72, passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Sue Glass; his three children, Melissa Glass (Matthew Robson) of New York City, James Glass IV (Jenny) of Huntsville, AL, and Eric Glass (Jill) of Denver, CO; and his three grandsons, William Robson, Andrew Robson, and Asher Glass.

Jim was the only child of the late Betty and James Glass, Jr. Although born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, he was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he graduated from McCallie School. He then went on to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and graduated with a BS in Mathematics with honors. He was a Morehead Scholar and member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Jim enjoyed a long and distinguished career in software engineering for the telecommunications industry. He owned and operated a small consulting company in the field, J.M.Glass and Associates, for many years.

In his free time Jim enjoyed drawing, soccer, and collecting fossils and arrowheads. He supported the local AYSO soccer league as both coach and referee. He was a lifelong fan of UNC basketball. He also enjoyed reading science fiction and fantasy, as well as, playing the occasional video game with his children.

Jim will be laid to rest at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, AL. There will be a simple graveside ceremony on Saturday, May 8 at 2pm. Those wishing to attend virtually will be able to view the live stream at .
