Col. (Ret.) Frederick W. Straub, 93, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Col. Straub graduated from St. Bernard’s Seminary and served for 21 years as a chaplain for the U. S. Army.
During his service in the Army, Col. Straub was awarded the Purple Heart (Vietnam); completed 12 weeks special forces training in Ft. Bragg, NC; and achieved 237 jumps with the 101st Airborne Division where he earned his Master Jump Wings. After retirement from the Army, he married the love of his life, Lt. Col. Marion Pilger.
Col. Straub was preceded in death by his wife and sisters, Mary Duignan and Ellie Stutz. Survivors include sisters, Barbara Fisher and Peg Marcello; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the loving care and friendship shown by Barbara Jean Ayala, Ernesto Ayala, and their children and grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
