David Hinley Chisholm, Sr.David Hinley Chisholm, Sr., age 75, of Athens, Alabama, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at home. David was born on October 11, 1945 in Lester, Alabama, to John (J.C.) Chisholm and Hortense Duncan Chisholm. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Johnnie Chisholm. David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rose Marie Chisholm; children, Allyson Chisholm Hamilton (Bruce) and David (Ley) Hinley Chisholm, Jr.; stepdaughters, Laura Hudson and Ashley Hudson; sister, Sharon Shelton (George); grandson, Joshua Hinley Chisholm; granddaughters, Laken Hamilton Mabry and Emily Carol Chisholm; and a great-grandson Jett Hinley Chisholm; a niece and several nephews.

David was a graduate of Athens High School in 1963 and received his BA from Athens College and MA from Auburn University. He spent his career as a vocational counselor at the State of Alabama Department of Rehabilitation and an educational counselor at Calhoun Community College and Martin Methodist College. David devoted himself to the care and training of animals, especially dogs and horses; though, he always said his “first dog was a goat.”

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Aimee Wimmer. There will be a private memorial service held at a later date. Those wishing to honor the memory of David Chisholm may donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
