On March 23, 2021, Walter Robert “Bob” Wimbish passed from this world into the next. He loved his family with all his heart, both those who remained with him and those who had gone on before. He gave all of himself to his children and family; he held absolutely nothing back. He was generous and willing to respond to the needs of others. He set an example for his children in how to care for others.

Bob was the second child of William Ward Wimbish and Annie Irene Blalock Wimbish, born January 10, 1931 and was raised, and lived his entire life, in the community of Midway. He was blessed with an older brother, William Ward (Claire) and a younger sister JoAnn (Larry) DuFrene. Bob married Ava Wade on September 29, 1953; together they raised 4 children: Ellen (Eddie) Green, Mary (Phillip) South, Robert (Tracy) Wimbish and Jon (Sharon) Wimbish.

He received a Bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State and 2 Masters degrees from Ole Miss. He supported both Universities faithfully all his life. Bob taught at various locations in Tishomingo County as well as several years at Cherokee High School. He finished his teaching career of more than 40 years as a Guidance Counselor at Tishomingo County Vocational Technical Center. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also firmly believed that he was a gifted chef; that’s all we’ll say about that.

Bob was a member of the Iuka Church of Christ where he served for many years as an elder. Many dear friends have called or written their condolences and they are greatly appreciated by the family.

Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be a private burial. The family intends to hold a memorial graveside service in the near future. Honorary pallbearers will be Carol Tuckier, Coy Daily, Donald Alexander, Tuffy Powell, Masahiro Shiroma, and Gene Hester.

Preceding him in death were his wife Ava, his parents, Ward and Irene, and his brother Bill. He is survived by his 4 children: Ellen, Mary, Robert, and Jon; 10 grandchildren: Jessie DeBord, Allison Green, Sarah and Molly Wimbish, Ethan and Audrey South, Lauryn, John, Jason, and Lydia Wimbish; 3 great grandchildren: Sophie, Timmy, and Evie DeBord; his precious sister Jo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
