Charles Oakley Moon, 89, formerly of New Hope, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 of natural causes.
Charles was born on May 21, 1931 to Gardner & Mary Moon in New Hope, AL. After graduating from New Hope High School in 1949, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his naval service, he worked at Thiokol until his retirement in 1991.
In 1956, he met Barbara Ann Wright, and they wed on October 10, 1956, going on to have four sons. Charles and Barbara were married 46 years.
After retiring, Charles spent his time raising cattle, gardening and spending time with his family.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Gardner and Mary Moon; wife, Barbara Wright Moon; sister, Sara Nell Tracy; and nephew, Jacob Aday.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Tammy), son, Perry (Jane), son, Chet (Kathy), and son, Randy (Tina); six grandchildren, Libby, Chelsea, Alyssa, Ali, Samuel, and Zachary, three great grandchildren, sisters, Hazel Miller and Judy Aday; and six nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Webster, Mike Frazier, Zachary Moon, Samuel Moon, Grant Aday, and Jim Miller.
Visitation will be Tuesday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Hayden Cemetery, Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Michael Carpenter officiating.
