David Lee Luther, age 67, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Maury Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, January 24 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Joe Bowers and Enoch George officiating. Burial will follow in the Maury Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the US Army Guard. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 12:00 to 2:00 at Heritage Funeral Home.

Born August 5, 1953 in Wayne County, MI, he was the husband of Patricia Crumley Luther for 42 years. David was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict and he worked for the Maury County Sheriff’s office for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant with the Criminal Investigations Division. He enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and he loved to do woodwork, fish, computer technology and was a general Mr. Fix-It and was an avid country music fan.

In addition to his loving wife, David is survived by his son: Andrew (Jennifer) Luther of Thompson Station; his daughter: Kellie (Brent) Warf of Duck River; brothers: Gary (Dora) Luther of Franklin and Eddie Luther of White House; sister: Sandra (James) Harvey of Columbia; grandchildren: Caden Warf, Epperly Luther, Emma Kate Warf and Charleston Luther; stepbrother: Larry Eley; mother-in-law: Violetta Crumley; father-in-law: Charles Crumley; sisters-in-law: Viola Harrington of Springfield, Lynda Crumley and Nicki (Butch) Hickman, both of Columbia; several nieces and nephews; close family friend: Nancy Cartwright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and stepmother: Jesse and Vernie Luther; his mother and stepfather: Opal and Dan Tucker; a brother: Jerry Luther.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Luther, Brent Warf, Gary Luther, Butch Hickman, Michael Harrington, Jr., Chad Harvey and Matthew Harvey. Honorary pallbearers will be Alyssa Harvey, Dustin Hickman and the Maury County Sheriff’s Department.

In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
