Ruth Jones Bennett was born on May 15, 1933 in Princeton, AL. She passed away on January 20, 2021. She grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Paint Rock Valley High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Athens College. She began her career in banking at State National Bank.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny (Buddy) Bennett; father, Lonnie Jones; mother, Belle Jones; stepdaughter, Ann Bennett Haltiwanger; and stepson, Christopher Bethune.
Survivors include her sister, Kathleen (Brady) Ratliff; nephew, Jason Ratliff (Jennifer); great nephews, Cameron Hatch, Sean Hatch, and Brady Scott Ratliff; niece, Loni Marie Ratliff; stepson, Terry Haltiwanger; step granddaughter, Kim Bethune; nieces, Tara Cochran and Teresa Parker; cousin, John Butler; friend, Migel Diaz; other nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her cat, Fluffy.
Ruth and Buddy enjoyed collecting antiques, and other collectibiles. They enjoyed going to the Smoky Mountains. Ruth enjoyed china painting and playing cards, especially Rook on Friday nights.
The family wants to express appreciation to special neighbors and friends, Martha and Tracy Harless, Dorothy Mosley, Robert and Brenda Bethune, Steve Bullard, Phyllis Schrimsher, Ruth Moore, MaryAnn Shnurr, and her volunteers who work for Meals on Wheels in Gurley, and the staff of Hospice of North Alabama who were so professional and kind.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 22 at 11 a.m. at Clay Cemetery, in Princeton, AL with Bill Cantrell of the East Huntsville Church of Christ officiating.
