Emiko Yoshiyama Jones passed peacefully on January 7, 2021. Born in Okinawa, Japan on November5, 1930, Emiko was the eldest of five siblings and the only daughter of Seitoku and Makata Yoshiyama.

Prior to the start of the Seige of Okinawa during WW II, the family was relocated off of the island. Emiko and her mother were sent to mainland Japan while her father and brothers went to one of the other Ryukyu islands. Emiko recalled seeing the American bombers flying overhead towards Nagasaki. After the war, the family eventually reunited back on Okinawa to restart their lives.

In 1962, Wallace Jones was assigned to Kadena AFB and met Emiko while she was working in the base mess hall. They were married in 1963 and Emiko became the instant mother to Wallace’s three sons, Scott Jones (Pam), Mark Jones (Carol) and Stacy Jones (Debra).

Wallace and Emiko were married for over 55 years and resided in the Los Angeles, CA, area for the majority of those years. Wallace passed away in 2018 and Emiko relocated to Huntsville to live with Stacy and Debra. Emiko will be cremated and laid to rest with Wallace in California later this year.
