Carma Leda Ridgeway Taylor, age 78, passed peacefully from this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 2, 2021, after a valiant battle with cancer. She is survived by her faithful husband, Stanley Taylor, her son and daughter-in-law, Spence and Greta Taylor, and her grandchildren, Spencer and Witt Taylor. Leda was predeceased by her parents, William Henry (Dub) Ridgeway and Mamie Fletcher Ridgeway.

Born in Fyffe, Alabama, Carma Leda was honored as Fyffe High School’s homecoming queen. After her graduation, she daily passed her husband-to-be while the two were driving in opposite directions on their way to work. Leda and Stanley moved to Gadsden immediately following their marriage, where they lived happily married for over 58 years.

Carma Leda was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Gadsden, serving in numerous roles, including, most recently, the Clothes Closet, where she joyfully served even into the COVID-19 pandemic. She was a member of the Gadsden Service Guild, the Antiquarian Society, and Inter Se Club, among many other organizations.

Leda is remembered as a devoted wife, a wonderful mother to both her son and daughter-in-law, and as a spry and energetic grandmother, known to both of her grandchildren as GG. She was a caring and trusted friend to everyone who knew her. She will be missed.

Due to current restrictions, a private family funeral service will be held in Gadsden (and available for viewing for live streaming at 10:00 am on Friday, January 08, 2021 at FUMC Gadsden.org by clicking on the Media tab), followed by a graveside burial at Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne on January 8, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gently worn items of clothing be donated to the First United Methodist Church of Gadsden Clothes Closet located on Broad Street.
