Johnnie Norman Shumate, 81 of Jasper, left this world and was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2021.
A graveside service only will be held Tuesday, January 5, at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pastor Alfred Hartley will officiate.
He was born May 30, 1939 in Jasper. He graduated from Curry High School in 1957, worked with Walker County Engineers, Continental Conveyor in Winfield, AL and many years in the building industry. Johnnie was a self taught architect who designed many homes and businesses throughout the area. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed Alabama Football. Being a member of the Central Alabama Rodders Society and attending antique car shows was one of his favorite pastimes.
He was preceded in death by his Parents-J.O. (Oscar) and Minnie Lee Shumate; Brothers-Manuel, Alonzo, Bertis and Allen Shumate; Sisters-Lawanda Shumate and Pauline Russell.
He is survived by his Loving wife of 60 years-Annette Shumate; Daughter-Karen Atkins (Alan); Granddaughter-Jessica Atkins (fiancee, Kody Gunter); Brother-Herbert Shumate (Joyce); along with a host of nieces, nephews and many treasured friends.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Robinson, James Hubbard, Bob Jent, Glenn Ferguson, Gary Aultman and Jake Allred.
