Born May 9, 1941 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Ewing Henry “Son” Frakes, Jr. and the late Marie Hackney Frakes. She was a 1959 graduate of Columbia Central High School, where she was class Secretary, cheerleader, and Homecoming Queen. In 1959, she was Miss Maury County and was a top five of Miss Tennessee pageant. Mrs. Schulz earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Tennessee. While at the University of Tennessee, she was Vice President of the Association of Women Students, Dormitory President, Secretary of Kappa Delta Sorority, President of Panhellenic Council, and was a Top Five Miss University of Tennessee. After college, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially to islands. Her traveling took her to Aruba, Bermuda, Bahamas, England, Ono, Virgin Islands, Lemesurier Island, Alaska, Hawaii, Cape Cod, and many more. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. While Mr. Schulz was in the service during Vietnam, she spent her time raising her children. Mrs. Schulz loved gardening and for many years was in charge of the James K. Polk Gardens. She retired from teaching 5th-6th grades at Whitthorne Middle School and was Teacher of the Year in 1999-2000.

Mrs. Schulz was a beautiful, sweet, loving lady, who made friends very easily, always with a beautiful smile. She was known for taking food to those that were grieving or ill. Mrs. Schulz was proud of her Methodist upbringing, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was very proud of the kneeling pads at First United Methodist Church created by her favorite aunt, Frances Frakes.

Mrs. Schulz was one of a kind and it is said that these are only male Angels, well there is a Her up there now.
