On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, Jack Brock Long, loving father of Shannon Long and Lisa Hanlon, passed from this life to be with his Savior at the age of 87 in Florence, AL. Jack is preceded in death by his mother and father, Grady J. and Margie B. Long. He is survived by his children, Shannon and Lisa, his sister, Margie Ann McCary, his grandchildren, Nathan, Nolan, Evan, Christian, Will and Grace. He is also survived by his very dear friend Sheila Horton.
A celebration of Jacks life will be held for his family in the Spring of 2021 in Hartselle, AL.
Jack Brock Long was born August 20, 1933 to Grady J. and Margie B. Long in Hartselle, AL.
He had one younger sister, Margie Ann.
Jack attended the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa and remained an avid Bama fan his entire life. Roll Tide!!
While at Alabama, Jack met Joan Donnally and the two were married.
After college, Jack served in the US Army’s 27th Infantry Regiment called The Wolfhounds.
Jack and Joan Long had two beloved children, Shannon and Lisa.
Jack raised his family in Birmingham, AL where he worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development as well as owning his own computer business.
Later in life, Jack received his law degree from the Birmingham School of Law.
He practiced law at Long and Sons with his father, Grady J. Long in Hartselle, AL. He also had a law practice in Florence, AL.
Jack loved Alabama Football, chess and boating.
Jack’s best friend for the past 25 years was, Sheila Horton. Jack could often be found hanging out with Sheila’s dog’s, whom he loved as well.
Jack is best remembered for being a kind soul who had a smile for everyone. He had a quiet, encouraging nature that comforted those who were around him.
Jack peacefully passed on to be with his Savior the afternoon of December, 22, 2020 surrounded by his children, Shannon Long and Lisa Hanlon.
