Danny Ray Peden, 61, of Killen, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 23, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Earl and Mary Hutto and Oscar and Velma Peden; his mother Francis Peden and his grandson Noah David Moody.

Danny Ray is survived by his father Oscar Ray Peden of Florence; his wife Mary Jo Johnson Peden; son Danny Heath Peden (Brandy) of Florence; daughter Jordyn Raye Peden (John Miller Lawson) of Killen; step-children that he helped raise and loved as his own, A.J. Crittenden (Kelly) of Savannah, TN, Joy Tucker McChristian (Mark) of Athens, AL, Jessi Tucker Weed (Sean) of Orange Beach, AL. He was “Big Daddy” to Jacob, Ethan, Taylor, Skylar, Ryleigh Beth and Marissa. Danny Ray had one brother, Bobby Peden.

Danny Ray was a retired Florence Police Officer, after proudly protecting and serving the City of Florence. He was a member of the Christ Chapel family where he was always eager to help his “favorite preacher in the world.” He was also an official escort for the U.N.A. football teams for many years. Danny Ray was more than a fan of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football program. He was a walking, talking lexicon of Alabama football. He truly bled crimson and white. Roll Tide.

A memorial service celebrating Danny Ray’s life will be Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00 in the Christ Chapel sanctuary with Bro. Gary Cosby officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.

A special thank you to Dr. Lyman Mitchell and Southern Care Hospice for their compassionate care.
