Donald Hershel Blackmon and Helen Jean Henson Blackmon, loving husband and wife, went to be with their Lord and Savior in December 2020. Don attended Corner High School, Helen attended Hayden High School. During this time, Don took a drive down Hwy 160 in Hayden. He saw Helen sitting on her Aunt’s front porch. Don was smitten with Helen and stopped to say hello. This chance meeting was the beginning of a beautiful love story. Don and Helen were together from the day they met. They were married November 22, 1958. Over the next 62 years they raised two sons who blessed them with their beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The loving home they shared was due to their spiritual relationship with Christ. Don and Helen attended both Good Hope Baptist Church, where Don served as a Deacon, and New Temple Baptist Church. They cherished their church family and the deep relationships they built around their love of God. Don and Helen never stopped dating. They enjoyed road trips to their favorite restaurants and spending time together but taking care of one another was always their first priority. Don served our Country in the United States Army, was a Mason at the 704 Brooklyn Lodge and worked for the Jefferson County Commission in the Environment Services Department. Helen was a scale operator for Drummond Coal Company. Don and Helen are predeceased by their parents and many other family members. They are survived by their sons, Greg Blackmon (Leeann) and Bryan Blackmon (Chandra); grandchildren, Candace Calvert (Dustin), Jordan Blackmon, Nicholas Blackmon, Cassidy Blackmon Duke (Ryan), Caleb Blackmon, Justin Blackmon, Josh Richards and Katlyn Richards; four great-grandchildren; sister Betty Jane Alcorn (Terry) as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. A graveside service honoring the lives of both Don and Helen will be held, at 2pm on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Tim Blackmon and Bro. J.J. Creel officiating. New Horizon Funeral Home directing.
