LAUDERDALE COUNTY-The health and safety of our students, staff, families, and community stakeholders is a top priority. On December 9, 2020, the Board of Education approved a revised calendar for the second semester beginning in January 2021. Click here for the Revised 2020-2021 School Calendar. With the COVID-19 numbers rising in confirmed cases and quarantined individuals, for both students and staff members, plans for school constantly change. On December 9, 2020, Gov. Ivey extended the Safer At Home Mask Order until January 22, 2021.
Beginning January 6, 2021, students will attend using the following schedule:
- Wednesday, January 6, 2021, is a remote-learning day for all LCSS students
Students in Grades 7-12, Beginning January 7, 2021, and through January 15, 2021:
- Will attend following the hybrid model of two groups, Group “A” and Group “B” as determined by each school. Siblings will attend traditional school together.
Beginning January 7-8, 2021 — Students in Group B attend
Beginning January 11-12, 2021 — Students in Group A attend
Beginning January 6, 2021 — Students learn remotely on Wednesdays
Students in Grades PreK-6, Beginning January 7, 2021, and through January 15, 2021:
- Will attend school four (4) days a week, with Wednesdays being remote-learning days for our PreK and elementary students.
Beginning January 7 — Students will attend in-person on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (remote learning on Wednesdays)
LC Virtual School/At-home school
- Students whose Parents/Guardians chose the Lauderdale County Virtual School have no planned changes except those outlined by the facilitators.
The LCSS is committed to a healthy school community at all schools and sites. We continue following the orders and guidelines from:
- Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH)
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE)
Cleaning and Disinfecting
- Schools and campuses will be cleaned and disinfected frequently following ADPH and CDC guidelines including regularly disinfecting frequently-used items and surfaces
- In the event of a school or building closure, impacted campuses will be cleaned and disinfected.
Personal Hygiene Safety
- Following the state face-covering guidelines
- Social distance (at least 3 to 6 feet away from other people not in your household)
- Frequently wash your hands
- Use hand sanitizer often
Water Fountains
Water drinking fountains will be closed. Students and staff are encouraged to bring a personal, individual water bottle.
Child Nutrition Program
School breakfasts and lunches are free for all students all school year.
- Students attending school in the traditional model will eat breakfasts and lunches at school on the days they attend
- High school students attending in-person school on the hybrid schedule may also pick up meals (3 breakfasts/3 lunches) on Wednesdays at all schools from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Elementary students attending in-person school four days a week may pick up meals (1 breakfast/1 lunch) on Wednesdays at all schools from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Students attending school through the LC Virtual School can pick up meals (5 breakfasts/5 lunches) from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Wednesdays at your school
Remember, if you think your family qualifies for free or reduced lunch, it is necessary to complete an application each year, including this school year.
