MSAA Chapter Of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Unveils 2021 Calendar

MUSCLE SHOALS-The Muscle Shoals Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, announces the unveiling of the chapter’s 2021 calendar, SPOTLIGHT ON EXCELLENCE V: YOUNG ADULTS  OF THE 21st CENTURY. The 2021 calendar spotlights twelve young individuals whose accomplishments have added to the rich history of the area. Each honoree, who was born or lived in The Shoals, has made a tremendous difference by his/her contribution to humankind.  It is hoped that their stories will inspire others, especially our youth.

Those featured in the 2021 calendar are Dr, Angela Abernathy,  a dentist who has a private practice in Manhattan; Dr. Laurentis Barnett, who has a doctorate in dental surgery and a Master of Divinity degree (private practice AND pastor); Patrice Butler Beamon, employed by The Coca-Cola Company as the Global Learning and Development Lead for Talent Development for corporate; Kyle Buchanan, president of Helen Keller and Red Bay Hospitals; Sonya Croone, District Social Worker for Florence City Schools and owner of Smiling Faces Photography; Reverend Dr. Marcus Demond Davidson, senior pastor of New Mount Olive Baptist Church and adjunct religion instructor for Broward College in Ft. Lauderdale, FL;  Lt. Kayla Freeman, a Platoon Leader and the first African American female pilot in the Alabama National Guard; Braden Grant Gunn, musician extraordinaire, who is director of the Trenholm Reunion Choir and a Minister of Music; Dr. Cassandra Jackson, writer and Professor of English at The College of New Jersey; Ambre Brown Morley, Senior Director of Commercial Communications at Novo Nordisk, Inc.; Jerel Noel, a Senior Account Executive with FirstPoint Management Resources and the first African American to be elected as president of Association Executives of North Carolina; and Rev. Wesley Thompson, pastor, author, and activist.

The 2021 calendar is dedicated to deceased sorority member Rita Ann Simpson, who transitioned in March 2020.

Due to the pandemic, the chapter had to forego its public reception for the people highlighted in the calendar, but a reveal/unveiling of the calendar can be seen on Muscle Shoals Area Alumnae Chapter’s Facebook page.

The cost of the calendar is $10.00. All proceeds from the calendar are used for the sorority’s philanthropic endeavors in The Shoals, such as scholarships for graduating high school seniors.
