Phillip Jerry Black, of Sumiton, passed away November 13, 2020. Jerry had a wonderful sense of humor. He had a talent for playing basketball when he was in High School. Jerry graduated from Dora High School in 1956. He started a diet every Monday but never lost a pound. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and Auburn Football. Jerry was a member of Sumiton Church of God. He owned City Hardware in Jasper for many years then later went into business with his brother. Jerry proudly served our Country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion in Gulf Shores. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Black; son, Ronney Black; father, Willard Black; mother, Myrtie Craven Black Hardy; step-father, Cooley Hardy and his brother, Wayne Black. He is survived by his son, Greg Black; grandchildren Bart Black (Faith), Elizabeth Black Baker, Erick Black Tubbs (Johnathan) and Alexa Black; great grandchildren; Bartley Black, Ben Baker, and Riley Tubbs; brother, Sam Black; sister Diane Morgan (Toby) as well as many other extended family members. A graveside service will be held Wednesday November 18, 2020 at 11am in Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper. Rev. Toby Morgan officiating.
