Graveside services for Mr. Grady “Cook” Character, age 85 of Lineville, were held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Lineville City Cemetery with Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating.
Mr. Character passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Clay County Hospital. A life-long resident of Clay County, Cook graduated from Lineville High School and worked for 33 years for the Clay County Engineering Department until his retirement. Upon retirement, Traveling with his wife became his passion. They traveled to every state in the United States as well as Canada and Mexico, and also went on several cruises. He served in the Army National Guard for 13 years and was Baptist by faith.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Myra C. Character; son, Wayne B. Character and wife Bonnie from Cragford; granddaughter, Kathryn “Katie” Character of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Character and Pearlie Mae Cook Character; three brothers, John Garvice Character, Blandford Oakley Character and Blake Ellsworth Character.
Active Pallbearers were Neal Hurst, Stanley Hurst, Willie Wise, Jeremy Character, Robert Milstead, and James Milstead.
Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville is in charge of the arrangements.
