Tyrus C Gibbs, Jr was born on July 12, 1966 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He passed away on March 22, 2020 in Foley, AL at the age of 53. His parents were Tyrus C. Gibbs, Sr. and Dorthy White Gibbs. His dad nicknamed him “Rusty” when he was born and he was forever known as “Rusty.” Rusty’s younger brother, Joe Miles Gibbs, passed just days after being born, leaving Rusty an only child. For you who knew him growing up, he was definitely loved and adored by his parents. Rusty did very well in school, was accepted to The University of Mississippi “Ole Miss” after high school. Growing up he played many sports. Football, basketball and baseball were the focus for many years. He also played a lot of golf with his Dad and eventually fell in love with this sport and decided to pursue a career as a golf professional. He was offered his first assistant golf professional opportunity at the Princeville Resort on Kauai, HI at the age of 25. He passed his PAT (players’ ability test) with flying colors and received his Class A Golf Professional Card within a year allowing him to teach golf clinics and give private golf lessons. After leaving Princeville, he worked as a golf professional at several country clubs and resorts for several years. Sherwood Forest Country Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Bentwater Yacht & Country Club in Montgomery, TX, and Hyatt Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, TX, are just a few of the clubs and resorts where he worked.

He also had a love for cooking and was truly a master in the kitchen. He co-owned Specialty Meats of Louisiana, in Monroe, Louisiana for a short time but definitely left a lasting impression with his recipes. He later followed in his Dad’s footsteps and worked in the insurance industry with State Farm for many years. Rusty never met a stranger. He was kind and funny and loved people. His only daughter, Reagan, was born in 1997 and he loved her with all his heart. No matter what he went through, he always wanted her to know, she was his reason for living.

Rusty struggled with addiction and found his healing though Jesus at The Home of Grace in Vancleave, MS. After recovery, he worked with Home of Grace for several years and helped organize charity golf tournaments that would raise money to help others with addiction. Rusty was saved and baptized in April 1993 at Parkview Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. When he passed earlier this year, he immediately was in the presence of Jesus and is now reunited with his family and friends who passed before him. Free of pain and struggles, he is now healthy and happy and at peace. We pray the memories will give you peace knowing he loved each of you very much. Thank you, Jesus for your gift of salvation.

A private family graveside service to honor Rusty’s life will be held Friday, September 25, 2020 at Hillside Masonic Cemetery in Fulton, MS.
