Edna Prince Cortner Jacobs, age 98 of Winchester, passed away on Wednesday, September 16 2020 at Elk River Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Sherwood on August 15, 1922 to the late John and Betty (Garner) Prince. Edna met her first husband, the late Clarence Cortner who was a railroader, when working at Copeland Cafe in Cowan. Clarence and Edna lived in Nashville where their two sons were born, but eventually moved to their beloved Franklin County. Edna worked for many years at United Diamond Brokers and later was a dedicated volunteer at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems. She was a devoted member of Winchester First United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed many of the programs and activities with her fellow church members. Edna was an award- winning knitter who won numerous first place awards at the Tennessee State Fair. She also enjoyed years of membership in Franklin County Garden Club. She was a wonderful cook and gardener who enjoyed canning the harvest of her own vegetables and cooking delicious meals for her friends and family. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence H. Cortner, and Clarence Jacobs; siblings, William Prince, Houston Prince, R.D. Prince, James Prince, Preston Prince, Edward Prince, Mancel Prince, Herthel Ellis Prince, and Ellen Prince Holben; and one step-great grandchild. She is survived by sons, C.R. “Bob” (June) Cortner of Winchester, and Dave (Jane) Cortner of Winchester; grandchildren, Yvette (Wade) McCallie , James C. “Jim” (Holly) Cortner, Alex Cortner, and John David Cortner; great-grandchildren, Robert William (Emily) Cortner, Maddie McCallie, and Collin McCallie; step-children, Peggy (Glen)Moore, Judy Cloud, Jimmy (Joy) Jacobs; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Randy) Queen Christy (Phillip) Robinson, Caryn (Shea) Bickerstaff , Eric (Brandy) Cloud, Amanda (Stephen) Brown, Rob (Lynn) Jacobs, and Andy (Tena) Jacobs; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Friday, September 18, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 19, 2020 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. Dr. Steve Angus and Wanda Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. The family requests memorials be made to Winchester First United Methodist Church.
