Donald Eugene Roush, age 90, of Huntsville passed away September 10, 2020.
He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene A. and Velma L. (Stellhorn) Roush, son, Eugene A. Roush II, brothers-in-law, Vaughn L. Dale and Thomas C. Newman of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Donna Kathleen Roush of Huntsville; son, Michael W. Roush (Carmen) of Mobile, AL; sisters, Marylin A. Dale and Lois H. Neuman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Caressa M. Roush of Mobile, AL, Donald E. Roush II of Kansas City, MO, Samuel T. Roush of Kansas City, MO, and Matthew B. Roush of Belton, MO; special nephew, Donald F. Cooper (Rene) of Hitchcock, TX; special neices and nephew, Kathy Whiteleather, Debby Lemmel (Jim), Vicky Lamb (Lonnie), Joan Timms (Russ), Diann Drayton (Barry), Michael Neuman (Laura) of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Roush was a devout Lutheran, and was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church (Huntsville), and was a past member of Trinity English Lutheran Church (Fort Wayne, Indiana), Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church (St. Louis, MO), Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (Nassau Bay, TX). He loved church activities, held special relationships with the Pastors and members of the congregations, participated in choir and served as Youth Activities Director.
Mr. Roush was kind and generous to God, family and country. He loved to travel and explore culture, learning as much as possible.
Mr. Roush was a Navy Veteran of 9 years (Medical Lab Technician) serving during the Korean War at Kodiak Naval Station, Alaska, Great Lakes Naval Station, Bethesda, MD, and Charleston Naval Station until 1957. Mr. Roush was a 1960 graduate of the University of Oklahoma earning a BS in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity (past president).
Mr. Roush was employed by the Monsanto Chemical Company as a Process Fluids Technical Manager, M.W. Kellogg Company in Houston, TX as a Principal Engineer. In 1984, he accepted a position at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL, in the Targets office, and later became Chief of of Missile Tests and Evaluation for USAMC Redstone. His employment allowed him travel around the world, making great friends along the way. Over his career Don received many honors and accolades. He was proud to be inducted into the Ancient Order of St. Barbera for his expertise and dedication to the U.S. Army Missile Command. He was a life member of the American Legion.
He retired at age 72. After his retirement, Don and Kathleen enjoyed traveling the world with a group of friends, Bob and Betty Cook, Bill and Dean Laird, Grady and Martha Edwards, S.R. and Jean Stewart, Mr. and Bill Hagler, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Willingham, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Adkins, Mr. and Mrs. James Seagraves, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Nicholson, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Koger “The Gatlinberg Gang”.
Mr. Roush would also like to be remembered by close friends and families: Aubrey Wood, Hank Luchen, Ron and Linda Werchan, Pryor and Mary Nell Parks, The Roush and Cooper families.
The Roush family would like to thank the caring nurses and nurses aides, social workers and staff from Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veterans Home and Hospice nurses, Mira, Becca, Leah, and Renika, who cared for him in his final days-May God Bless You All.
There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.
