Graveside Services for Ruth Thrower Childers, age 99 of Cragford, was Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Clay County Memory Gardens with Bro. James Owens and Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating.
Mrs. Childers passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the Lineville Health and Rehab.
Mrs. Childers was born in Randolph County, and after living in Opelika for a brief time, settled in Clay County in 1963. She worked at Higgins and Southland, and was a member of County Line Baptist Church. She loved to travel, spending time with her family, teaching her grandchildren how to fish, piggy back, and sharing her many sayings of wisdom. She was a friend to anyone in need.
Mrs. Childers is survived by 5 daughters: Sandra Johnson of Homosassa, FL, Judie McLain (Wendell) of Auburn, Cynthia Shirley (Wayne) of Prattville, Beth Wheeles of Ashland, and Mot Walker (Jamie) of Cragford; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents: James Ferris Thrower and Minnie Effie Ashley; her husband: Seaborn Childers; her son: Seaborn Wesley Childers Jr.; her grandson: Scott Stanton; her granddaughter: Crystal Morris; two sons-in-law: Ray Johnson and John Wheeles; four sisters and four brothers.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Lineville Health and Rehab Activities Fund.
