Shelva Jean Stroud, age 83 of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Mrs. Stroud was born on March 25, 1937 in Smyth Co., Virginia to the late Fred Calvin and Minnie Oaks Brooks Blevins. She was a 1958 graduate of Emory and Henry College, and worked for NASA as a mathematician. Mrs. Stroud Joined the United States Army as a civilian computer programmer and became the assistant head of the computer branch. Her dreams of having family then took her in a new direction and on to her next great adventure for the next 25 years. She became a volunteer for many activities with the Methodist church, meals on wheels, and with the schools that her children attended, including tutoring for students who needed a little extra help. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Phillip Blevins Stroud; and four siblings. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, C.W. Stroud; and son, Gregory Stroud. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 2:30 P.M. at Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester.
