The world got a bit dimmer today.
Ruth Cantrell, age 94, passed away at her daughter’s home on Thursday, August 21, 2020 surrounded by family.
She was born in Smithville, TN on July 19, 1926. She worked at Farley Elementary School in the cafeteria for many years and was known as Granny or G-Ma to her grandchildren and kids.
Anyone who knew her knew that she was small but mighty. She loved the Lord and her family passionately and unconditionally. Ruth was very active in Cornerstone Community Church. She loved to work in the garden, play Wii, sew quilts, and knit scarves and hats for the homeless.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Cantrell, son, Melvin Cantrell, and brother, Cliea Robinson.
She leaves behind three sisters, Claudia Grove, Audrey Phillips, and Diane McCaleb all of Tennessee. Two children, Linda McKelvey of Huntsville, and Roy Cantrell, and wife Wanda, of Boynton Beach, FL. Grandchildren, Jason Cantrell of Huntsville, Betsy Burt, and husband Jason of Atlanta, Trevor Cantrell of Huntsville, Isabella Cantrell of Mission Viejo, CA, and Elijah and Peri Kate Burt of Atlanta.
A graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, August 25th at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Mike Lightfoot officiating. Visitation will be held beforehand at Laughlin Service Funeral Home from 11:00 to 12:00.
A special thank you from the family to Compassus Hospice for their loving care and to caregivers, Kathrine Collier, Nicole Hardy, and Mandy Dryer.
Ruth will be deeply missed by all those privileged to know and love her.
