Fred Mason

I am Fred Mason a lifelong resident of Sheffield.  1972 graduate of Sheffield High School and retired  Chief Financial Officer at Sheffield Utilities. I am running for Sheffield City Council District 3.

I have been on the Sheffield Board of Education and am a 2 time past President.   Currently a member and past President of Sheffield Kiwanis Club, a member Sheffield First United Methodist Church.  I am also a Board member of Helen Keller Hospital Foundation and a past President of Sheffield Little League.
I have coached Little League Baseball and youth basketball and soccer in Sheffield and am married to Kaye for 42 years; 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
I would focus on the positive traits of our City. We have beautiful riverfront property and scenic neighborhoods with some beautiful homes. The downtown has experienced a renaissance due to the efforts of prior administrations and individuals.
Three areas of focus would be Economic Improvement, Infrastructure Improvement, and Aesthetic Improvement. These are very interrelated. The completion of Inspiration Landing will help increase the tax base and and offer more entertainment and consumer options. We have roads in need of repair and old water and sewer lines that will eventually need attention. It is very apparent that we need to improve the aesthetics of the city.
There are old trees that need to be checked and managed. Parks such as Riverfront Park need to be repaired and maintained. There is a need for general clean up of property in the City and District 3. We need to create curb appeal on the corridors leading into the City and Inspiration Landing. This will help improve the pride that we have in our city.
These goals have to be crafted with fiscal responsibility. I believe my background in finance and accounting will be an asset in implementing programs responsibly. I believe Sheffield is a hidden gem with our natural beauty and musical heritage. We have good schools that are getting better every year with a STEM program as well as a culinary program. I would like to work to improve the opportunities and quality of life for every resident.
I would love to represent District 3 on the Sheffield City Council.
