Larry  D.  Gillespie Larry D. Gillespie of Huntsville, AL died Saturday, July 4, 2020 at home after only a week of COVID 19 symptoms. He was diagnosed positive the day after his death.
Born in Alton, Illinois July 1, 1948 to Wilbur and Anna Kirsch Gillespie, Larry was a retired Huntsville City Police Officer and retired National Guardsman. He served two tours in Vietnam and also served in Operation Desert Store with the 109th Medivac unit.

Some of his accolades include: Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation medal, Good Conduct medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, Vietnam Service medal, Southwest Asia Service medal and the Meritorious Service award from the City of Huntsville along with two Police Officer of the Year awards.

Larry is survived by his loving and grateful wife, Enitza, his two sons, of whom he was so proud, Dennis William and David Ryan, brothers Bob (Janet), Walt (Jan), and Bill; his sisters, Kay, Doris, Marysue (Jim Nettles), Peggy; an abundance of nephews and nieces and lastly his beloved beagle, Dolly. He was preceded in death by his dad and mom, “Barney” and Anna; his brothers, Charles, Richard, John and sister, Elizabeth.

He will be cremated and due to the COVID pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
