Evie Beatrice “Mama B” Kuykendall Kemp, age 96 of Cordova, passed away at 11:31 p.m., July 1, 2020 at home and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a devoted and caring Christian lady and was an active member of Cordova Freewill Baptist Church for many years. She lived a beautiful life with a wonderful sense of humor and had a loving and giving heart. She was a devoted homemaker, caregiver and made beautiful custom draperies. She worked many years at Cordova’s Indian Head Cotton Mill and Jasper’s Arrow Shirt Company. At age 80 she was left a widow with the passing of her precious husband of 64 years, Buil Kemp. She loved and adored him and all her family.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Sulphur Springs Freewill Baptist Cemetery in Samantha, AL with burial to follow. Rev. Tim Baumgartner and Rev. Adrian Garner will officiate. Her dear friend, Doug Sanders will share words of friendship at the service. Longtime friend Bill Ed Gilbert will sing one of her favorite hymns.
Pallbearers will be Terry Stripling, Jimmy Robinson, Ray Johnson, Jerry Lee Herron, Huel “Hoss” Lovell. Special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Emily Williams, Dr. Michael Garcia, Dr. Billy Richardson and Comfort Care Hospice for the special care given through her long illness.
Evie B. is survived by five grandchildren, Donald J. Maxwell (Kim), Sherrie Robinson (Jimmy) Donna Meredith (Gerald), Amy Maxwell Eldred (Jeremy) and Jason Kemp; eight great grandchildren, D.J. Maxwell ( Nicole), Katie Maxwell, Emily B. Stewart (Denny), Ashley Miller (Steve), Jana Lane, Cody Eldred, Justin Maxwell and Kelsy Eldred; nine great-great grandchildren-Isaiah, Amara, Breanna, Abbie, Emma, Jaxon, Natalee, Cameron Jiles and Arthur. She leaves a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her precious husband of 64 years, Buil Kemp; her daughter, Margaret Kemp Maxwell (Donald); her son, Billy Kemp (Diann); brothers, Infant Glen J.T. Kuykendall and Sebron Kuykendall (Theo); sisters, Evelyn Kuykendall Nichols (Fred), Jeanelle Kuykendall Johnson (William), Mary Ellen Kuykendall Milligan (Robert); her daddy, James Thomas “Jim” Kuykendall; mother, Louisa Hall Kuykendall; her grandaddy, Jasper Kuykendall; grandmother, Susie Campbell Kuykendall; her granddaddy, John Roscoe Hall and grandmother, Francis South Hall.
