Ethelynn Montgomery, age 89, passed away on the 3rd of July in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was born on the 19th of August in 1930 to the late Emily Bowden and Boyd Norman in Murray, Kentucky. Before relocating to Knoxville in 2006 she was a longtime Lexington resident and will always be remembered serving as the librarian at Lexington High School for thirty years before she retired in 1990. While living in Lexington, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Some of her other interest were playing the organ or playing duplicate bridge in her bridge clubs or competitively with her husband as a partner.
Mrs. Montgomery is survived by her two loving sons, Mark (Cindy) Montgomery of Dickson, and David (Jill) Montgomery of Knoxville; five grandchildren: Kevin (Ashley) of Muscle Shoals, AL, Jeni Gillespie of Clarksville, Matthew Montgomery of Nashville, Katie Ireland of Miami, FL, and Emily (Rob) Smithson of Knoxville. Ethelynn loved her church and family, but the most treasured additions to her life were five great grandchildren: Aubrie and Braxton Montgomery, Brody Powell and Kate and Blair Smithson. Preceding Ethelynn in death was her husband of 58 years, Gerald Lloyd Montgomery and her two brothers: Charles Boyd and Bill Norman.
Funeral services will be conducted by Ethelynn’s nephew, Rev. R. Kirk Norman of Oklahoma City in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home on Sunday, July the 5th at 2:00 PM with interment to follow in Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcome and can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lexington.
