Louise Sherer Wade was born on June 24, 1919 in Jasper, Alabama and died peacefully in her home on June 9, 2020, just two weeks before her 101st birthday. She is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Louise grew up during the Great Depression, the daughter of Ethel and John Sherer. Louise would often recount her long walks to school, walking with her brothers and sister some 3 to 4 miles each way. After she graduated from Walker County High School she worked at Woolworth’s where she was introduced by her brother Ralph to Stanley Wade. She married Stanley in May, 1943 during World War II. After the War, they settled in Ethel’s home on Calumet Road where they raised their family of three children, Stan, Jr., John and Helen Louise. After her mother Ethel died, Louise devoted most of her time to the family chores of cooking, laundry, hauling kids to school, sporting practice and games. She especially loved watching her sons play Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball. She was also very involved with the Band Boosters during her children’s high school years.
As the children aged, Louise returned to the work force as secretary to the principal of Central Elementary School-later Jasper Middle School. Few Jasper school students did not know and love Mrs. Wade. She always welcomed the students into the office knowing most of them by their first names. She often gave them milk money, let them use the telephone, tended to their scrapes and bruises, and made them feel loved as their mother away from home.
She retired from this job after many years of service and ultimately spent a lot of time helping Stanley in the Probate Judge office. She was a very active and devoted member of Westside Baptist Church.
Later in life, Louise was always happiest when serving her home cooked meals to family and friends and baking cakes for them to enjoy. And despite her long term tribulations as she aged, she never lost her great sense of humor. She will be sorely missed by all she served-her children, her family and her friends.
Louise is predeceased by her Mother and Father, Ethel Brown Sherer and John Minter Sherer, her Husband of over 75 years, Judge Stanley A. Wade, her infant daughter, her brother Neil Sherer, her brother Ralph Sherer, her sister Helen Drummond, her sister-in-law Vetra Sherer, as well as Stanley’s four beloved siblings and their spouses.
She is survived by her Son, Dr. Stanley A. Wade, Jr,. (Terry) of Meridian, MS, Dr. John S. Wade (Brenda) of Fresno, CA and Helen Wade Johnson (Howard) of Fernandina Beach, FL.
Louise was a loving grandmother to Stanley A. Wade, III, Dr. Brian Wade, Jodi Wade, Dr. Andrew Zerbinopoulos, Whitney Saubert and John (Jack) Brendan Wade.
She was a devoted aunt to Dr. Glenda Gail Sherer and Wayne Broadh, Mary East, Peggy Joyce “Jo” Brandler, Jan Verciglio, David Waid, Sherrill Davis, Waid Davis, Byron Waid and Keith Waid.
She was especially close to her friends and caregivers Henry and Jan Handley and Amy Handley Carroll. She will also be missed by a host of great grandchildren and numerous other friends and family members.
Graveside services will be Friday, June 12, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. All friends and family are invited to attend.
