Virginia C. Thompson, 84, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday. Mrs. Thompson retired from the U.S. Army as a Contracting Officer. She also worked as a Public Relation Director for the public libraries where she secured funding for libraries all over Alabama. In her early years, she worked with nonprofit organizations. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. She had the vision and created WLRH Public Radio in Huntsville.
Survivors include husband, Paul Thompson; daughter, Vicki Wisner (Andy) of Madison; grandchildren, Roxi Brown (James) of Madison, Lauren Haynes (Nathan) of Athens, Jessica Pohly (Justin) of Huntsville; and Michelle Tomme of Palm Springs, CA; great-grandchildren, Ethan Brown of Madison, Caleb and Marshall Haynes of Athens, and Evelyn and Ella Pohly of Huntsville; and sister, Mary Lou Applebaum of Charleston, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Florine Curtis and son, David Tomme.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 30th, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Andy Wisner officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
